General Information

The ubiquitous white button is the most commonly cultivated, consumed and recognized mushroom. The first cultivated button mushrooms were in France, hence the name Champignon de Paris. Now they are grown in most parts of the world. These mushrooms grow prolifically with relatively high yields. Button Mushrooms are used in a variety of dishes; both Western and Asian, from soups to pizzas to Chinese stir-fries.

Taste & Texture

Buttons (sometimes called champignons) have a unique, delicate flavour and a fine texture. Button mushrooms are perfect to use raw in salads or with dips, and they look sensational skewered for the barbecue. They readily take on other flavours, and suit pasta dishes and stir-fries. Kids love them crumbed or tempura style.

Swiss browns belong to the same family as the white Agaricus (White Button) mushroom, and have a similar shape with a tan to dark brown cap and a more intense flavour.

Taste & Texture

Swiss browns have a deeper and earthier flavour than white mushrooms, and their firm flesh means Swiss Browns hold their shape well when cooked. They are excellent in pasta sauces, risotto and casseroles, or marinated and added to an antipasto platter.
